The world should be represented
how the (north) Germanic peoples imagined the
cosmos: as nine kingdoms,
with the people living in
Miðgarðr (1). Various
mythological beings (Æsir (2),
Vanir (3), Jotnar (4), Svartalfir
(5), etc.) also appear as acting
figures. In the games, the
Norse proper names are used
for the realms of the cosmos and the various
mythological beings in order to reinforce the
authenticity.
Elder Futhark
The way of life on Miðgarðr
should, however, be described as closely as
possible to the actual way of
life of the Germanic peoples,
as far as archaeologists and
historians were able to
reconstruct them, in order to
give an impression of who
“the Germanic peoples”
really were and how they lived.
One focus
is mainly placed on a believable heroine. Surveys
among players of digital
games clearly show that there
are still too few female
heroes in digital games,
although this is expressly
requested by the majority of
players. The lack of
credibility of the few female
main characters in games, which is already
noticeable in the visual characteristics, is often
criticized. Romilda, on the other hand, is said to be
an average woman who also looks average, but
whose fate poses great challenges that she learns to
master. This creates a strong and, above all,
credible figure of identification, especially for the
increasingly female gaming community.
Another focus
the Romilda series focuses on imparting
knowledge. Due to the
increasing processing of the
Old Norse mythology and the
Viking myth in books, films
and TV series, people have
become curious about the
Germanic peoples and their
way of life, culture and
religion. Romilda takes this into account by
imparting a lot of knowledge about an exciting
fantasy fairy tale with an interesting story.
(1) Mið = old Norse middle, garðr =
old Norse enclosure; Kingdom of
humans in the Norse cosmos
(2) Plural of Ás, Norse gods (Asen)
(3) Plural of Vana, Norse gods
(Wanen)
(4) Plural of Jotunn, mythological
beings of Norse mythology, mostly
as (ice) giants translated /
interpreted
(5) plural of Svartalfa, (black
albums), mythological beings of Old
Norse mythology, mostly translated /
interpreted as dwarfs
A Germanic Fantasy Story
With Romilda, a series of several mobile
and browser games of various genres
will be created that tells the life story of
the main protagonist of the same name.
